A tapas walk in the vineyards at Château Boutinet

Yesterday, in the summer season of 2013, I tried out a very pleasant and somewhat original outing in the Bordelais vineyards that I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to you – a Tapas walk at Château Boutinet.

Following a warm welcome at the property by Nathalie and Jérôme (the owners), we set off for a 1 hour 15 minutes trek among the vines and the woods along a magnificent slope in the Fonsadais. During this walk we learned a lot about the specifics of this exploitation, the biodynamics and all the work on the vines throughout the whole year.

After the physical exertion, it was into the wine cellars for a presentation of the wine making process and to see what is produced on this estate. Then, under the shade of the oaks, a sampling of 3 of their wines :

  • a claret : not a rosé but a Claret comes from an English time, not really red wine and not really rosé wine but between both....  fruity and fresh wine to share between friends
  • the Château Boutinet : 100% merlot aged in stainless tanks
  • Thalie de Boutinet : 100% merlot - aged 12 to 15 months i french oak barrels

All accompanied with a very appetising plate of Tapas “du terroir”  (from the lands) straight from the market in Libourne : chorizo, grenier médocain (a pork tripe speciality), fresh bruschettas of mozzarella and tomato, goose rillettes, ham and cheese. Then to finish, a small sweet dish – the famous cannelé from Bordeaux that should not be missed during your stay...

And when I take my guests to this winery, guess about the feed back....
